Ramen Shokudo: The No MSG Ramen           “The Ang Sens love food. We love to eat out. We stay loyal to some of our favorite restaurants and we keep coming back to where good food is.”

As you must know, my family loves to eat.

We frequent this Japanese restaurant, at 401 Banawe corner Maria Clara Street, Quezon City,

That Ramen House called Ramen Shokudo

Ramen Shokudo is a cozy Japanese restaurant which has a seating capacity of ’round about 20 people.

The restaurant is basically a ramen house —where you enjoy delicious ramen and then you leave right after eating. It is not exactly a place for hanging out.

At the right side of the entrance area is the counter. You pay as you order. After which, they will then usher you to the dining area. It is not the usual Japanese restaurant we are accustomed to here in the Philippines. It is because it has a bar-seating layout. But supposedly, it is how ramen houses in Japan are.

Ramen Shokudo boasts of delicious ramen which is 100 percent free of MSG. In addition to that, they do not allow take outs for their ramen. It is because they want their customers to enjoy ramen while it is still hot. As a matter of fact, we were even told to finish our bowl within fifteen minutes.

The noodles are created from scratch while their ramen has a thick broth which makes the dish tastier.

Four types of ramen are being offered there:

  • Shoyu
    Japanese soy sauce base

  • Miso
    Japanese soy base

  • Shio
    salt base

  • Tantanmen
    spicy base

My husband and I have tried the ramen.

I have tried the Shio and Shoyu Ramen while my husband has tried the Tantanmen Ramen.

But I prefer the Shoyu—which is why I have ordered the Ramen Shoyu thrice, for the four times that I have been there.

Yeah, I am not a risk taker when it comes to ordering food. I stick to what I like and I would not order anything else. My husband and son are the adventurous if not courageous ones, when it comes to food. They are willing to try new dishes.

We also had the staple Japanese dumpling, gyoza. Gyoza is pan-fried and served with a savory sauce.

Gyu don

My husband loves the mildly flavored Gyu don or the beef rice bowl.

In whatever Japanese restaurant that we would find ourselves, my son would always order katsu donSo in what was supposedly a ramen house, our son had this:

Katsu don is a rice dish topped with slices of deep-fried pork cutlet, a soft cooked egg and some vegetables.
